READING’S Mayor, Cllr Jenny Ryan, will be one of the first people to hear the debut of the town’s new star performer later this month.
The star has a sumptious voice, a real stage presence and is destined to be one of the most talked about performers in the town. And you can hear the premiere performance when the Witt Studio Showcase presents its autumn Showcase later this month.
But don’t go looking for an autograph after the show as the star in question is a new, mighty concert piano, which has been bought by members of Wesley Methodist Church in Queen’s Road, for the benefit of the community.
The piano will receive its debut performance at the Showcae on Friday, November 30 from 7.30pm in a concert called Will You Hear The People Sing?!
The programme includes a special tribute to the ever-popular musical Les Miserables as well as songs from from My Fair Lady, Sweet Charity, The Mikado, Lucia Di Lammermoor, Der Rosenkavalier, Carmen and La Boheme. There will also be music by Handel, Mozart and Richard Rodgers and, organisers promise, heart-stopping versions of Danny Boy and Abide With Me.
The event features an outstanding line-up of guest singers, including professional soloists from The Witt Studio Opera Company, along with the 100-strong Witt Studio Chorus.
The piano will be played by the maestro himself, Anthony Witt.
Tickets cost £12 or £9 for concessions. They are available by calling 07531 386 616, logging on to www.thewittstudio.com, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Subject to availability, they will also be available on the door.
Parking is available at the nearby Queen’s Road public car park.
