Reading Buses is responding to traffic problems on the A4 corridor as well as in both Newbury and Reading.
Without changing the timetable, two extra buses have now been added to the route.
One (pictured) is a single deck bus painted in jet black colours. The other is a red double deck that the company has drafted in to help fill this need.
Both buses are equipped with free WiFi and give change – just like the normal jet black buses.
Said Reading Buses Marketing Manager Jake Osman: “It is hoped that by introducing these additional buses to the double deck fleet the service will become more reliable and help attract additional passengers to travel jet black.
“This means that there should always be a bus waiting at each end of the route to start on time – even if the inbound bus arrives late due to delays.
“We are confident that in this way the extra vehicles we are putting on jet black will help solve the problem of the traffic issues encountered on this key route.
“The additional vehicles will be easily spotted because they are different to the jet black double decks. For people who find the single deck bus on their trip, rest assured that we have done our best to schedule them for the trips where a single-decker provides enough seats.”
