April 2016 will see a change in the law that means it will be a legal obligation for all dogs to be microchipped.
The microchips are the size of a grain of rice and injected under the skin in your dog’s neck.
“The chip contains the owner’s contact details so that if your dog gets out of the house or runs away whilst out on a walk it can be easily returned to you.” explained Katie Johns, Education and Community Officer for Dogs Trust. “It could save your dog’s life.”
Dogs Trust are helping out by joining with local vets to chip your dog for free.
Call 0330 123 0334 or visit www.chipmydog.org.uk to find the nearest participating vet.
Once your dog has been chipped don’t forget to keep your chip details up to date. If you move house or the dog changes ownership call 0330 123 0334 to register your changes.
