Reading Arts and Music Week continues with The Reading Arts Exhibition at the Novotel Hotel this weekend, 20th – 22nd June.
More than 70 based Reading-based artists will be displaying their work alongside pieces from a world-class collection that is being loaned by local art dealer and collector Mark Lawrence.
Mark Lawrence, Director of The Reading Gallery said: “The Reading Gallery is very proud to support the 2014 Reading Arts and Music Week by loaning a number of the gallery’s most prized pieces.
“These include Vincent Van Gogh’s Houses at Auvers and works by Seurat, Miró and Henry Moore.
“The Reading Gallery will also be exhibiting pieces from its sculpture collection, including works by Ernst Barlach, Jacob Epstein and a rare bronze by Bernini. The pieces range from the 16th to the 20th centuries.
“We are proud to exhibit these works alongside some of Reading’s most talented artists and to support this amazing event organised by Reading Borough Council and its event volunteers.
“This will be the first time that these works will be displayed to the public and we hope that as many people as possible in the town will get the chance to see them over the weekend. They will act as a preview to what the gallery will hopefully very soon be displaying in the town on a permanent basis.”
Lead Member for Culture, Sport and Consumer Services, Cllr Paul Gittings said: “We are thrilled to be able to show a selection from such a prestigious collection alongside so many pieces from talented Reading-based artists. The exhibition shows the best of what the Borough has to offer in terms of art and culture.”
The Reading Arts Exhibition is the town’s largest collection of work by Reading-based artists, students and groups. Entry is free and the exhibition is open on Saturday, June 21, 10.30am-6pm and Sunday 22nd June, 10.30am-4.00pm. An exhibition preview can be found at www.facebook.com/rdgartsweek.
