“It has a fantastic location in a vibrant community.” he said. “I’m convinced this restaurant will put food on the map.”

Dr Elizabeth Omole, owner of Faith Kitchen moved to Reading less than a year ago from London.

“We lived in London for about 20 years.” said Elizabeth. “My children grew up in London. I am a university lecturer and I used to come here with my husband to speak at conferences. We’ve been coming to Reading for about 25 years and every time I come I realise there’s not a lot of African food to eat. I thought of all the African food we can do and I thought, it’s worth trying.”

Faith Kitchen is bright and friendly with a contemporary feel. “I want an atmosphere of relaxation,” said Elizabeth, “where customers can relax and forget about what they are doing.” The restaurant is family friendly with high chairs available for babies and a laid-back atmosphere where children will feel at ease.

The menu offers a wide selection of East and West African cuisine with generous portion sizes.

Appetisers start at £1.50 with lots to choose from including beef suya and fresh fish pepper soup.

Main courses include plantain with fish and meat cost under £11 and a variety of side orders such as dodo, moin moin and beans mean there is plenty of choice and you won’t pay over the moon for this heavenly food.

The most popular dish was fried chicken accompanied with jollof; a tomato flavoured rice dish with a little kick. Plates of puff puff were on the tables to nibble as you waited for your order, these are little fried dough balls that are as light as a cloud and melt in the mouth.

Vegetarian options are available too and there is a drinks list with beers, wines and spirits to enjoy with your meal.

Faith Kitchen also offer take away service and home delivery is available within a 3 mile radius. They will also cater for parties, weddings, church occasions, seminars and company dinners.

Faith Kitchen is open Monday to Saturday 12 Noon – 12 Midnight and Sunday 2pm – 11 pm.
