Reading West MP Alok Sharma joined Wokingham Deputy Mayor Cllr Parry Batth and Wokingham Deputy Mayoress Surinder Batth at the Sangam Lunch Club on Friday, July 25.

The club features an authentic Indian meal cooked by volunteers for just £3 per person. It regularly attracts more than 100 people to its base, at Wycliffe Baptist Church in East Reading. It is led by Sarla Kakar and starts at 12.30pm.

Alok spoke to the attendees at the lunch where he praised Mrs Kakar’s dedication and generosity to the local community.

Alok Sharma said: “It was a pleasure to be invited to speak at the sixth anniversary celebrations of the Sangam Lunch Club. Mrs Kakar’s generosity to her local community is inspiring and I have a huge respect for Mrs Kakar’s commitment, which has meant the lunch club has run every week for the last six years.”

Mrs Kakar said: “I have enjoyed these last six years immensely and want to thank Wycliffe Baptist Church for all their unwavering help and support in keeping the club going. My thanks also to our local MP for taking the time and trouble from a busy schedule to meet with people at the lunch club.”

The club has its own Facebook page
