Soothe those stresses and strains away…

It’s autumn and there’s a change in the air. As the outdoor sports season is now upon us, it can mean endless taxi service provision for parents as they take their active offspring to and from clubs and academies, whereas for the rest of the sporting population it can mean taking to the running track or the football, hockey and rugby pitches once more – and with that comes the sprains, strains and the ever-present aroma of heat spray for pain relief.

Ideally placed on the junction of Church Road at Caversham Bridge, Le Masseur Personnel has a shop-front which looks out onto the hustle and bustle of life whereas inside, the soothing scents from the oil diffusers gentle ease the mind into a state of calmness and serenity.

A team of 10 therapists work at the business; each bring their own specialisms, techniques and skillsets to Le Masseur Personnel. This pays huge dividends for the clients, as they can then be placed with a relevant practitioner to suit their individual and specific needs.

The menu of services reads like something from an a-la carte restaurant, with services including Honey Massages and Chocolate Massages for the more indulgent client, whereas those in need of some sports therapy can avail themselves of a range of Deep Tissue Body and Back Massages. Blends of exotic oils and fragrances tailored to the needs of the client are available for a range of opulent and relaxing Aromatherapy Massages whereas those in a rush can avail themselves of a Chair Massage which can be an instant pick-me-up and takes just ten minutes.

Le Masseur Personnel is the brainchild of Gabriel De Carvalho who, upon qualifying, has worked as a massage therapist since 2002. Gabriel has travelled the world gaining a whole host of techniques, and with that knowledge and expanding experience he began to develop a range of treatments for his own clients. Gabriel’s forte lies in Deep-tissue Massage, Pre and Post Workout Massage and Chair Massage. He also studied the more “whole body” approach to massage therapy, and is a practitioner in Holistic Massage, De-stress Massage, Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Hot Stone Massage and Detox Massage.

Originally starting out by working from a therapy room in his own home in Caversham, Gabriel soon found that his bookings started to exceed his space and time availability. He obtained premises in central Reading and soon outgrew those, and then located to the current premises early in 2011.

“We see people in our therapy rooms who have had the summer off,” said Gabriel, “They then go straight back into their sports. Strains on unworked muscles can mean injury. We also see a lot of runners and rowers who have gone straight into a heavy training schedule and are now suffering from muscular pain and strain.”

He added: “In the Autumn we also see a lot of non-sports therapy. With the cooler weather we see people wanting ‘warm’ treatments, such as hot oil massage, hot stone therapy and aromatherapy. We also see a lot of clients out there wanting beauty treatments; people want to feel good about themselves and pamper themselves a little more. Clients like our services, and the word of mouth referral we benefit from really works.”

General Manager of Le Masseur Personnel is Rob Doyle, who is also the Senior Chair Massage Therapist at the studio. Rob has been working with Gabriel since Le Masseur Personnel opened, and his specialisms are in Swedish Massage, Bio-detox Therapy, De-stress Massage and Chair Massage.

“We can provide a whole range of treatments here at the same time,” said Rob. “Downstairs we have the Chair Massage area, the Aromatherapy centre and our Reception Desk. We then have two further floors of treatment rooms so we can provide sports massage therapy, aromatherapy massage as well as a range of beauty and waxing treatments, with each client having their own individual treatment rooms for complete privacy.

“We also love seeing the transformation in our clients. We have people come through our doors who perhaps had quite restrictive movement and mobility, and yet can freely move about once they have had some treatment; it’s great to see. We have our services signposted from local rowing and athletics clubs because they know that professional therapy services can greatly reduce the recovery time when a sprain or strain happens.”
