CCA Community Relationship Manager and Fundraiser Mireille Haviland today opened the new consulting room at the CCA store on Oxford Road, Reading, thanks to support in the form of funding by way of a £2,500 donation from the Community Development Fund and a further £3,000 from The Kiriath Trust.
Until today, the store on Oxford Road was the only facility within the CCA store portfolio without an office. A confidential space was needed for a variety of reasons, as Mrs Haviland explained at the launch today: “Our Oxford Road shop is the only shop without a confidential office. An office is needed for the Manager but it needs to be confidential because we are working with volunteers who sometimes need support. It was almost impossible to do this before, and to have had a private conversation would have necessitated using the car park! It is also needed for any customers that may need confidential support.”
She continued: “Our support centre, next door will also be able to use it when needed for confidential meetings with their clients. Because of the nature of our work – people are frequently upset and our support centre is an open space and therefore not very confidential if there are other clients in there. As we have CommuniCare on board, they will also be able to have use of the office when needed for the clients they are supporting with debt issues, benefits issues and to give privacy when assisting them with form filling.”
The new office space at the CCA store on Oxford Road will ensure that CCA are able to treat volunteers, clients and customers with the dignity, respect and privacy which they deserve and also provide them with a safe and confidential space when needed.
