Light parties offer an alternative to Hallowe’en

On Friday, October 31, half-term comes to an end with All Hallows Eve – or Hallowe’en as it’s now more commonly known. While for many it’s an opportunity for high-spirited fun on the streets, some parents would prefer it if their children could attend a party instead.

A number of churches across the Thames Valley are doing just that – from Superhero parties to light parties, there is something for all youngsters. 

Most parties are aimed at Primary School children and some require booking. 

Here is a round-up of all the parties that we know about. They all take place on Friday, October 31. 



GORING – Goring Free Church.

Light party for children. 5pm-7pm. Details: www.goringfreechurch.org.uk.

HURST – Hurst Gospel Hall, Whistley Green.

Minecraft Holiday Bible Club: quizes, singing, BIbles stories and crafts. 10am-noon. Children aged five upwards and accompanied under fives. Quiz and Chips. 6.30pm-8pm. For children and parents. Details: www.hurstgospelhall.org.

READING – Wycliffe Baptist Church, Kings’ Road.

Superhero party for children: food, games, bouncy castle and more. Come dressed as favourite superhero. 5pm-6.45pm for ages three-six, 7pm-9pm for ages 7-11. £2. Adults should stay. Details: wycliffe-church.uk.

Alternative Hallowe’en party: includes games, food, craft and a conjuror. For ages 4-11. Booking essential. Suggested donation £3. 5pm-7pm. Details: 01252 873030.

TILEHURST – Methodist Church, School Road.

WHITLEY – St Agnes, Northumberland Avenue.

Festival of Light – outdoors. 3pm-5pm. All ages welcome.

WOKINGHAM – St Crispin’s School Main Hall, London Road, RG40 1SS.

Light Party for primary school aged children. 6pm-7.30pm. Parents welcome to stay. Food, cake, drinks, games, more. Free. Details: www.christchurchwokingham.org.uk.

WOKINGHAM – Baptist Church, Milton Road.

Light Party for children ages 5-11 and accompanied under fives. £3 child, £5 family. Booking essential. 5.30pm-7.30pm. Details: 0118 978 7174.

Hero Party for children: come dressed as your fvourite superhero. 5.30pm-7.30pm. Details: www.stjameswoodley.org.

WOODLEY – Baptist Church.
