The rafters at St Andrews URC in Reading tonight rattled to the amazing acoustic guitar skills of US Christian singer-songwriter Michael Farley.
Farley was born in Indianapolis and raised in Southern California. He came to his Christian faith as a teenager and spent his childhood playing in bands; eventually touring the US and other parts of the world. On returning home from touring in the 1970s, he began leading worship in various churches. After Bible college he married his childhood sweetheart Cathy and settled down to raise a family. His children are now grown and have flown the nest, but Farley’s love of faith and family drive his passion to bring a message of hope to those who encounter his music.
Currently part-way through a UK tour of his album “For The Love Of Hymn Vol 1: Peace Be Still”, Farley’s music is a blend of traditional arrangements and his own personal musical penmanship. Performances are a mixture of singing, worship, prayer and personal anecdotes and stories which underpin the warm and mellow acoustic music he delivers, ranging from tales of meeting his wife at the tender age of 14 right through to a very frank and honest disclosure of one of his son’s battles with drugs – and an eventual journey to find faith, love and marriage.
