Wokingham commuters enjoy mince pies

Commuters at Wokingham received an early Christmas present in the form of a simple mince pie.

More than 800 of the festive treats were given away at the town’s train station on Thursday, December 18. Members of Wokingham Methodist Church got up every early to hand out the gifts: they were on hand at the station from 5.15am and 8.15am.

The event was sponsored by local solicitors Clifton Ingram Llp, who also helped with sharing the pies.

Members of the church wrapped the pies in a special Christmas serviette and sealed in a bag that included details of the church’s Christmas services and a special message from the church minister, the Revd Nick Thompson.

Andy Knight, community worker for Wokingham Methodist Church, said: “We received many very positive and appreciative comments on the day, together with a number of emails and tweets of thanks.”

The mince pie giveaway follows on from a similar event in the Spring, when they gave away hot cross buns. Now plans are being made to make the two events a staple of the church’s calendar.
