Jesus Christ Superstar to come to Caversham

Students from Henley College will be using St Andrew’s Church in Caversham for a special performance of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice has been chosen by the College for its Christmas show and the College says it has made the decision to “stage the production in the most apt of settings, a church”.

The cast comprises students from across the College and organisers say that a lot of work has gone into the show’s preparations.

The show’s director, Nic Saunders, says: “The students have been rehearsing really hard for the show, as actors, singers, dancers and musicians.

“Although time is tight to mount such a big show, I’m really optimistic we’ll do it and I hope audiences will support it.

“It will be worth the effort [to attend] as seeing this particular story told in a church setting really promises to add something special. If people can drag themselves away from X-Factor and Strictly for one night, I think they’ll appreciate what a great night out a live show like this can be.”

The show will be performed from Wednesday, December 7 to Saturday, December 10 at the Albert Road-based church. Tickets cost £8 or £7 for concessions and will be available by calling 01491 579988 or from Little Nellies Sweet Shop, Friday Street, Henley.
