Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson MP signs copies of his latest memoirs, ‘Please Mr Postman’ at the Chapter One Bookstore in Woodley. Lynda Bowyer
Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, Labour MP for West Hull and Hessle, attended a book signing of the second title in his series of memoirs. The event, held at the Chapter One Book Store in Woodley, attracted crowds of all ages.
Mr Johnson chatted happily amongst the gathering of people for around 20 minutes before giving a short speech, recalling with candour the 19 years he and his family spent living on the Britwell Estate in Slough. He concluded by giving praise to Chapter One and said: “We should all support our independent book shops. This place is such a wonderful place, and all of you here must be very very proud of it.” Afterwards he signed copies of his book ‘Please Mr Postman’, with queues spiralling around the shop and out through the door into the precinct.
Tea and cake followed and Mr Johnson continued chatting with book shop customers and well-wishers.
‘Please Mr Postman’ is available at Chapter One Book Store, which is at 136 Crockhamwell Road, Reading. They also have an online shop which can be found at www.chapteronewoodley.co.uk.
