Tamesis Chamber Choir will perform a special concert later this month Tamesis
Commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the First World War will continue as Tamesis Chamber Choir present a Help The Heroes autumn concert this month.
The choir, which has performed on BBC Radio 3, will team up with Ascot Brass for the event, which will take place at the Salvation Army centre in Reading’s town centre on Saturday, October 18.
Starting at 7pm, the event will feature a mixture of inspiring brass and vocal music for all tastes and include music that the choir have previously performed on its Remembrance and Spirituals CDs.
The choir’s director, Louise Rapple Moore, said: “We’ve got a rather special one-off Tamesis concert coming up this October: a musical commemoration of the First World War.
“The concert takes place at the recently refurbished Salvation Army concert hall in central Reading – it’s a fantastic concert venue that we’re really looking forward to performing at for the first time.
“If you’ve already got our Remembrance and Spirituals CDs, it’s a great chance to hear us perform some of the music live again. If you haven’t, come and get to know some lively Spirituals including Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit and I Want Jesus to Walk With Me.
“From Remembrance, we’ll be performing the reflective Do not Stand At My Grave by Eleanor Daley and Rupert Lang’s Kontakion, which our audience tells us is one of their favourites in our repertoire.”
The evening will also include an Abba medley as well as some choral arrangements for some favourite pop songs, which Louise promises will be “as you’ve never heard them before”.
She is also looking forward to the team up with Ascot Brass.
She said: “Tthey’re an accomplished brass band with a formidable reputation in the Thames Valley and we are delighted to join with them again after sharing the stage with them earlier this year at Reading Town Hall in the Karl Jenkins Requiem concert.”
The concert, at the Salvation Army central in Anstey Road, central Reading, starts at 7pm on Saturday, October 18.
Tickets are £10 or £8 for concessions, under 16s are free.
Parking can be found in nearby Chatham Street, Broad Street Mall and the Civic Centre car parks.
