David’s a ‘star’ for helping children

David received his award Reading Buses

When three children got on the wrong bus, driver David Higgs didn’t hesitate to help them, despite the fact that heavy traffic was causing him a time problem.

David, 41, from Whitley, a driver at Reading Buses for 15 years, has a reputation amongst colleagues for being a ‘good guy’ – and proved it perfectly in this instance.

The children had got on board the new Reading Buses leopard 3 instead of the scarlet 9. After becoming distraught at realising their mistake, the children began to panic.

David quickly took control and calmed the children down. He knew that the bus behind was catching up and due to terminate in Arborfield and return back to Reading.

He stayed with them and made sure they got on the next bus which then took the children safely back to The Maidens.

Reading Buses’ HR Director Caroline Anscombe said : “He calmed the children who were obviously upset by their unfortunate experience.

“He fully explained what he was going to do and made sure the children were taken care of.

“We congratulate David who personifies our ‘stars’ and he has therefore been acclaimed as our latest ‘Star of the Month,’ added Caroline.
