Great autumn of live music

Stanley Hetherington is looking forward to a new season of great music at Wokingham Music Club this autumn. Here he explains why:

The summer of music in Wokingham is now over and what a summer it was. Playing for us we had amongst others The Real Thing, Ska Souls, Oye Santana, Bear & The Woods, The Room, Tania Smith and many more great acts.

Now it is time for the Autumn programme to begin and what a line up we have to look forward too:

It is with huge pleasure that we welcome Dani Wilde back to the club. Dani will always have a special place at our club as she played with Never the Bride on our opening night back in April 2012.

Dani has brought some great musician to our door and the 19th September is no excepting to that rule.

She will have with her Todd Sharpville and our club is part of their Two Guitars & A One Eyed Dog European and UK Tour. If you are not familiar with Todd’s playing please do visit his website.

There you will see a long list of the good and the great that Todd has played with. Here’s a taster Chuck Berry, Van Morrison, Bo Diddley, Pink, Joe Cocker and BB King to name but a few

Todd has been described as the best British Blue Guitarist since Peter Green and if you need evidence just have a have a look at this video of Todd’s version of a song that Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac made their own:

Former Radio One now Radio Berkshire DJ Mike Read introduced me to the music of John Cee Standard and I am so glad he did. Not only is John a great musician he is also a most interesting character. He has been writing songs for over 50 years and during those times his style has changed but his quality has always been of the highest order.

He also has the ability to take some of the blues classics and give them his own style. Not only is a first rate musician but he is also an author and an actor. He hope he wouldn’t mind me saying that his most famous part so far is probably when he was in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire so we should prepare ourselves for a wizard of a performance.

Tickets are £10 in advance and £12.50 on the door. It takes place on Friday, September 19 from 7.45pm at Emmbrook Sports & Social Club, Lowther Road, Wokingham RG41 1JB.
