Reading Conservatives announce 2015 leadership team

With May’s General and Local Elections getting closer the Reading Conservative Group have announced its leadership team as it prepares to make its case to the Borough’s electorate.

This year’s elections take place on Thursday, May 7 and a third of Reading Borough Council’s seats will be contested.

At an AGM, held on Thursday, January 22, the Reading Conservatives re-elected Cllr Jeanette Skeats from Thames Ward as its leader. Cllr David Stevens, also from Thames Ward, will be the group’s chairman.

Cllr Jane Stanford-Beale of Peppard Ward becomes the new deputy leader, taking over from Cllr Richard Willis, also of Peppard Ward.

Cllr Simon Robinson, also of Peppard Ward, is the group’s chief whip, while Tilehurst Ward councilor Sandra Vickers was re-elected as group secretary.

On her re-election as leader, Cllr Skeats thanked the group for their continued support and paid special thanks to the group’s former deputy leader, Cllr Willis, for all his hard work and support during his time in that role and for his many years of service to the group and on the council.

There are 46 seats in Reading Borough Council. At the 2014 Reading Borough Council elections, the Conservative Party lost two seats, leaving them with 10. The Labour Party remains the largest party, with 31 seats. The Green Party have three seats – all in east Reading’s Park Ward, while the Liberal Democrats lost two seats and have just two seats left.
