Mayor kicks off Fairtrade Fortnight

The Mayor of Reading formally launched Fairtrade Fortnight at a ceremony in the town today.

Accompanied by David Sutton, Chair of Reading Fairtrade Steering Group, the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Marian Livingston, officially launched  Reading’s Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations at a ceremony in the Civic Centre today.

Events will be held all around the borough over the next two weeks, marking the tenth anniversary of Reading’s status as a Fairtrade Town.

A display of Fairtrade products, all available from retailers in the town, was on display in the Civic Centre.

The Mayor was keen to emphasise Reading Borough Council’s own Fairtrade credentials, saying after the ceremony “We only ever serve Fairtrade drinks in the Mayor’s office”.
