With the launch of Reading Studio in December 2014 and the Christmas production ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, Reading Rep’s latest season has hit the ground running. Now, they’re focused on two ambitious projects: Race, written by a Pulitzer Prize winner, and a new collaboration between Reading Rep and Newbury’s Watermill Theatre.
Race will be produced at Easter in association with 2Heavy Productions and is
written by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet.
Aidan Grounds, Reading Rep’s executive director, said: “We will employ black and minority ethnic actors and it will be directed by Reading-based Stephen Macauley.”
Race is a topical detective story about the perceptions and realities that colour our world: the subtle shades between victim and victimised.
Then, in the summer Reading Rep will enjoy a new collaboration with Newbury’s Watermill Theatre.
A Little History of the World will run for two weeks at the Studio in August and also be performed at the Watermill Theatre (July 14-25). The play will then go on a rural tour throughout the South East during the summer.
A Little History of the World take us on a whistlestop tour of the centuries starting with the big bang and coming right up-to-date. Written by Toby Hulse, it is based on the international bestseller by EH Gombrich.
“We are ambitious and want to grow,” admitted Aidan.
“Linking with the Watermill Theatre has helped with that. It really is a significant step for us artistically.”
Reading Rep is based at Reading College, King’s Road, Reading, RG1 4HJ. For more, log on to their website.
