Single parents are invited to join a new, friendly Saturday morning group in Reading’s town centre. The next meeting starts at 10am this Saturday and takes place at The Oasis Community Centre in Baker Street.
The group has just got off the ground and aims to offer support and friendship to single parents and their children.
Holly Baker, a local single parent who attends the group, said: “there are very few places of support for lone parents in Reading. It’s a hard job raising children on your own and getting to meet others in the same position is helpful as we all know what it’s like and can be there for each other.
“The Oasis is such a warm and friendly place.”
The group shares breakfast and can then take part in craft activities and games for the children – at its December meeting the children made Christmas cards and crackers and were also able to ice homemade gingerbread men.
Jamie Cater, the group’s organizer, said: “We wanted to set up a group because we know that being a single parent is hard work and can often be lonely.
“The group gives an opportunity for single parents to meet other single parents, enjoy some adult company and receive support and friendship”.
The Oasis Single Parent Group now wants to extend the invitation to all single parents inReading to come along. Jamie said that parents are welcome to join in with or without the children.
The next meeting is on Saturday, February 14 from 10am to noon at The Oasis, Baker Street, Reading, RG1 7XT.
The next sessions run on Saturdays March 7 and April 11.
