It might still be summer but already one church is making plans for Christmas.
Aldermaston’s St Mary’s Church is once again making preparations for its unique nativity play, which will be performed for the 58th time this year.
The play is based on the York Cycle of Mystery Plays and every production has been directed by the redoubtable Pat Eastop MBE.
Although most players have been performing their parts for many years, there are some changes to the cast planned.
Dave Shirt, from the church, said: “This year it is anticipated we will have new people filling the key roles of Mary and Joseph. The atmosphere and tradition, however, will be unchanged!”
The play will be performed from Thursday, December 4 to Sunday, December 7.
The Thursday and Friday shows start at 8pm, the Saturday and Sunday shows are at 7pm.
The church is hosting a flower festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
It is open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, August 23 to Monday, August 25.
Extracts from World War 1 letters and poems read on the hour every hour and light refreshments will be served in the church.
