Reading’s streets flowed with red this morning as the town held it’s first ever Santa Run. Organised by the Rotary Club, and with sponsorship monies going towards the Alexander Devine Hospice, more than 1,000 runners ranging from fun to elite took part in the dastardly dash across town and back.
Setting off from Forbury Gardens at 9am on Sunday, December 14, the festive fun-runners clattered down the cobbles to whoops and waves from the many people who had gathered to cheer them on.
Although the event wasn’t billed as a race, the first runner past the post was 22-year old Nick Buckle from Twyford. First female runner across the finish line was Amber Gascoigne from Cemetery Junction.
The Mayor of Reading, Councillor Tony Jones said: “This is a bonkers event. I really hope that it becomes a regular event in the town. It’s fun and it’s a good thing to do.”
