Five million blue bags will be delivered by the end of March Phil Creighton
Forget Esso blue, from Monday it’s time for Woky Blue as the Borough Council starts to deliver more than five million blue bags – a task that takes five weeks.
Each of the 64,000 households in the Borough will receive two rolls of 40 blue bags – 80 bags in total – for household waste and the delivery scheme should be completed by the end of March, with bags then in use from April to March 2016.
Residents who have already registered as a larger household of five or more will automatically receive their additional bags by July. The kerbside recycling scheme, for food cans, drink cans, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aerosols is continuing. Any residents who need a new or replacement black recycling box can request one online at: www.wokingham.gov.uk/recycling or call (0118) 974 6000.
The Borough Council adds that collection days remain unchanged and any residents who are unsure of their day can use the postcode search on the council’s website at: www.wokingham.gov.uk/binday or by calling (0118) 974 6000.
Cllr Angus Ross, executive member for environment, said: “It’s a mammoth task to deliver over five million blue bags to some 64,000 households. Although this is the allocation up until the end of March 2016, and equates to one and a half bags a week, we ask residents to try and reduce their household waste and recycle as much as possible.”
