Winter Clothes For Iraq facebook page
An urgent appeal has gone out for winter clothes which will be shipped out to Iraqi refugees next week.
St Nicolas Church in Earley is collecting good quality, clean winter clothes which will be sent to Northern Iraq to help hundreds of thousands of displaced people in desperate need.
Donations should be made by Sunday, January 18.
There are an estimated 450,000 displaced people, at least half of whom are children and many of whom are living in tents and unfinished buildings in temperatures as low as -15ÂșC.
As well as clean clothes (including underlayers), the appeal is for winter shoes, spotless and stain free mattresses, blankets, wheelchairs, crutches and zimmer frames.
Donations can be left in the church lobby, in bags or boxes marked ‘For Iraq’.
The Sutcliffe Avenue church posted on its Facebook page that it has been receiving a lot of donations that they have been stacking boxes in the church itself, but they’d like to send two vans full of clothes to the appeal.
