The sound of Christmas filled Reading’s town centre as the Salvation Army played carols to festive shoppers hunting for a bargain.
Band members from Reading Central Corps of the Salvation Army performed at lunchtime on Broad Street. They were joined by members of Churches Together in Reading who handed out carol song sheets to people who wanted to join in.
Carols included popular favourites such as Joy To The World and While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night.
Generous passers-by could also donate to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal thanks to Soldiers rattling collection tins.
The Salvation Army wasn’t the only carollers performing in Broad Street today. Members of Carey Baptist Church held their own carolling earlier in the day and members of the Emmanu’-EL Apostolic Gospel Academy – part of De Monfort University performed in the middle of the street, close to Waterstones.
Members of Reading Central Salvation Army have a busy Christmas. They will be teaming up with the Reading West Corps on Christmas Day to welcome anyone who would otherwise be on their own, with activities running at the Reading West’s HQ on Oxford Road from 9am to 3pm.
