Wokingham’s annual Easter play took place in Market Place on Good Friday and the audience included Town Council Mayor, Martin Bishop.
Organised by Churches Together in Wokingham and Stage-Fright, the play was written, devised and acted by members of the Wokingham community.
Called Voices In The Crowd, it drew on material created by the former Bishop of Reading, the Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, as well as work by Kahlil Gibran and the cast.
Hundreds of people turned out for the play, including church leaders from across the town.
The event managed to avoid the heavy rain that had been forecast.
Audience members were invited to hear different monologues from the cast before gathering in the centre around some scaffolding to be reminded of the events of the first Good Friday, which saw Jesus crucified on the Cross. In the play, Jesus, played by Will Farndon, climbed the scaffolding tower to stand in front of a specially erected cross.
The audience joined in with two songs: My Song Is Love Unknown and When I Survey The Wondrous Cross.
The play started with a procession from All Saints Church led by the Revd David Hodgson from All Saints Church and ended with another procession to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where a short service was held.
