On Saturday, July 22, there will be a new summer project launching call The Mustard Seed Project. It comes from RISE Theatre and takes place in St Bart’s Church in east Reading – a church that is also a theatre.
The new creative initiative aims to encourage people explore their artistic abilities. They say no experience is necessary, just openness to collaborate with people of all ages and backgrounds to create an inspiring piece of theatre art that will be performed in Reading town centre on Saturday, September 16.
The Mustard Seed Project aims to empower the local community to create and share their own stories through ‘Theatre Art’ – a concept that fuses art, drama, music and storytelling. The project is open to anyone aged 13 to 100 and free to participate.
Rise Theatre is looking to gather people from diverse backgrounds within the local community to create a short dramatic piece of Theatre Art over an eight-week creative process.
The Theatre Art piece will explore how ordinary people can do amazing things and make a difference in the world.
Through small actions our ‘seeds’ can have a positive and profound impact on those around us.
Rise Theatre said it believes that every person has a story worth hearing, so it is our aim to incorporate real stories from real people in the local community.
The final Theatre Art performance and event will be a celebration of diversity and provide a forum for different people’s stories to be heard.
During the performance, a colourful and bold tree will be created on a large canvas by participants quite literally bringing colour to the town.
Next Saturday (July 22) is a launch event at St Bartholomew’s Church in east Reading from 10am to 4pm, there will then be weekly art and theatre workshops on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8.30pm.
