Caversham website is one of the best in the country – and that’s official

Martyn Strong from Caversham Baptist Church receives his runners-up prize at the Christian New Media Awards 2013

A CAVERSHAM church’s website is one of the best in the country after scooping a silver prize at a national awards ceremony.

The Baptist Church was voted a runner-up for having one of the most accessible websites in the country. Martyn Strong, who acts as webmaster for the site, was presented with a special certificate as part of the Christian New Media Awards on Saturday, November 9.

The Accessibility Award was presented to organisations that had made sure their website was user friendly, even for people with disabilities. It was sponsored by the Torch Trust, which works with people who have visual impairments.

The Salvation Army International scooped the main award for their website and the other shortlisted organisation was the YouNight mobile app. Caversham Baptist Church was the only church shortlisted for the Accessibility Award.

Caversham Baptist Church’s pastor, the Revd Rob Beardsley, said: “I’m proud of Martyn’s work on the website.”

The awards took place in London’s The Brewery and were organised by Premier Christian Media.

The company’s chief executive, Peter Kerridge, said that the awards ceremony would be inspiring and challenging as delegates “deliberate on how the Church communicates the Gospel in this new digital age”.
