The proposed development at Townlands
Cllr Ann Ducker, Leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, has expressed her delight at the news that the proposed redevelopment of Townlands in Henley-upon-Thames has been given the go-ahead, providing commercial details can be finalised.
On March 12 the NHS Property Services board, responsible for overseeing the project, agreed to proceed with the redevelopment of the Townlands Community Hospital site in the north of the town.
The scheme, which was given planning permission by South Oxfordshire District Council in 2012, will include a health and social wellbeing campus featuring an 18 bed community hospital, a 12 bed palliative care facility, a 64 bed care home, and 45 assisted living units. There will also be key worker apartments, car parking, landscaping, open space, and new vehicle access from Mount View.
Cllr Ducker said: “This is great news for the people of Henley and the surrounding area. We have been involved with this project for a long time, including granting permission for the development to take place on the Townlands site, and playing an important role on the steering group which gave residents a key outlet to address their concerns, so I really appreciate how hard people have worked to bring this project forward.
“This redevelopment will bring significant jobs to the area as well as providing the care and support facilities which will benefit many families from the South Oxfordshire community.”
