Live performances of songs, readings and films will feature at the launch of a new CD at Battle Library.
The CD, called Songs from the Black Meadow, and featuring 17 musicians from around the world, will be launched at the library at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 21.
The CD is based on a book called Tales from the Black Meadow, a collection of stories by Reading-based author Chris Lambert, who last year invited musicians to contribute to a musical album based on the stories in the book.
Reading musical artists Elena Martin, Oli Cox, Mervyn Williams and the Theale Green Choir and illustrator Nigel Wilson all feature on the album.
Other musicians come from Kentucky, North Carolina, Greece, Scotland, Yorkshire, Devon, Cornwall and Newcastle.
All were inspired by the myths and legends that surround the mysterious Black Meadow, a piece of remote heathland steeped in folklore, which is situated on the North York Moors.
Black Meadow is renowned for strange phenomena, such as a ghostly village, time-slips and bizarre transformations, as well as strange creatures like bramble children and creatures made from the fog itself.
Paul Gittings, Lead Councillor for Culture, Sport and Consumer Services, said: “It’s great to see so many talented Reading people involved in this project. I wish them well and hope the launch of the CD will prove a huge success.”
The album will be released on Friday, October 31.
