In reply to a question from Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West, the Education Secretary, Michael Gove, this week praised the parents’ group behind All Saints Junior School and WREN proposed secondary schools in West Reading.
Speaking in Parliament, during the regular education departmental questions, Alok Sharma said: “The West Reading Education Network parent group is seeking approval to open a Single Academy Trust secondary school next September. The same parent group set up the outstanding All Saints Junior Free School. Does the Secretary of State agree with me that this is exactly the type of excellent parent-led initiative, which everyone in this house should be backing? – it certainly enjoys cross-party support in Reading.”
Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education said: “I absolutely do agree. It is important to bear in mind that the All Saints School in Reading was outstanding in every category, when it was inspected by Ofsted; and I look forward to working with my honourable friend, in order to ensure that the quality of education Reading parents enjoy continues to improve.”
Following the Parliamentary session Alok Sharma said: “I am delighted that the Education Secretary recognises the achievements of All Saints Junior School, which is backed by many of the same parents involved in the West Reading Education Network. I look forward to continuing to work with WREN as they look to secure Single Academy Trust status as well as the preferred site for The WREN school.”
Mischa Tytel, Director of WREN said: “It’s fantastic that Alok brought our campaign to the attention, on the floor of the House of Commons, of the Secretary of State for Education and we’re particularly pleased about Mr Gove’s commitment to working on the education issue with our MP. Creating The Wren School on the Presentation College/Elvian school site would be a big step in the right direction for the children of West Reading and we are very pleased to have Alok’s support in achieving that goal.”
Alok has also written to the Department for Education in support of WREN’s proposal to open as a Single Academy Trust.
