Reading FC has announced that its winger Royston Drenthe has joined a club in Turkey, having successfully completed a medical and all the necessary paperwork.
The transfer is to Turkish top flight club Kayseri Erciyesspor and is a permanent move.
He joined the Royals in summer 2013, and has been on loan this season at Sheffield Wednesday, where he played seven league games and scored once.
In a statement, the Royals said that the 27-year-old leaves with “the club’s best wishes”.
The statement added: “He never quite established himself in our first team and this move represents the best outcome for both the club and the player, who will hopefully now enjoy regular first team football in the Süper Lig.”
New Royals manager Steve Clarke said: “Royston Drenthe is, without doubt, a talented player but sometimes, in football, transfers don’t deliver what they promise. That’s been the case for Royston at Reading FC so it’s best for both parties that he moves on and we wish him well for the future.”
