The major upgrade is being financed by Reading Borough Council with match-funding from the Government’s £3.56m ‘Superfast Extension Programme’ allocation to Berkshire which is designed to increase broadband availability across the county.

This combined investment should extend the availability of superfast broadband to 98% of premises in Reading by the end of 2017.

Cllr Jo Lovelock, Leader of Reading Borough Council said:

“Fast access to Broadband is as vital to businesses and homes as other services these days and I am delighted we have been able to work with the other Berkshire Authorities to achieve such an improvement in the availability of superfast Broadband in Reading.”

Superfast Berkshire, a collaboration of the six Berkshire unitary authorities and Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, has already invested in excess of £2 million to expand superfast broadband to over 90% of the county by September 2015.

The proposal for Reading’s superfast broadband investment can be found as Item 13 here.
