On Monday, we asked if this was the cheapest fuel in Thames Valley – but we didn’t expect it to be beaten so quickly. With crude oil prices plummeting, there’s an unexpected Christmas bonus for motorists as fuel prices are falling rapidly. So much so that the third price cut in a fortnight has just been announced.
Asda has announced that from Thursday, December 18, it will drop unleaded prices by a further 2p – the second price reduction in a week.
It promises that nationally, you’ll pay no more than 110.7p per litre for unleaded and 117.7p on diesel – that’s the lowest fuel prices have been in four years.
In September, unleaded was 126.7p per litre, so this latest cut represents a drop of 16p in just 13 weeks.
Andy Peake, Asda’s Petrol Trading Director, said: “We’re giving drivers an early Christmas present as fuel prices continue to fall. Asda are leading the way with our 11th price cut since September.”
“We know our competitors are likely to follow our lead but Asda don’t have a postcode lottery on fuel meaning no matter where customers live, they will benefit from the same fuel price with our national price cap of 110.7ppl for unleaded and 117.7ppl for diesel.”
PetrolPrices.com, a price comparasion site for fuel prices, reveals that on Thursday, December 16, the average UK price for a litre of unleaded was 116.32p and Diesel 122.15p. The highest local price that PetrolPrices.com was reporting was 128.9p for unleaded.
Speaking at the weekend ahead of the earlier price cut, Andy Peake, Asda’s Petrol Trading Director said, “Asda are again leading the way with our second price cut on fuel this week, we know how important it is to pass savings back into motorists’ pockets as soon as oil prices fall, which is why this is our tenth price cut since September.”
The price is available at Asda’s branch in Lower Earley, as well as branches across the country.
Andy added: “Asda don’t have a postcode lottery on fuel meaning no matter where customers live, they will benefit from the same fuel price with our national price cap of 112.7ppl for unleaded and 118.7ppl for diesel.”
