Season ticket record for Royals

Reading FC says it is delighted to announce that it has set a new club record for season ticket holders in the Football League.

So far, just over 14,000 season tickets have now been issued for the Royals’ 2013/14 Sky Bet Championship campaign – overtaking the previous figure set in the 2007/08 season.

And the supporting strength is strong: its opening day clash with Ipswich Town on Saturday, August 4 was also the highest opening day crowd seen at Madejski Stadium in the Football League – with 20,456 watching the club’s opening day 2-1 victory over the Tractormen.

“I am delighted with the support our fans have shown us as we enter a very exciting season,” said owner Anton Zingarevich.

“To reach this record landmark shows that the supporters share the optimism felt by everyone around the club. I’m sure they will be rewarded with some fantastic football – because we’re looking to make some more history over the next ten months.”

That terrific support has continued from last season, when more than 500,000 people passed through the turnstiles, with a new stadium record set when 24,184 watched a 2-1 win over Everton in November.

A spokesperson for the Royals added: “The club would like to thank each and every fan for their backing – you continue to earn that place on our teamsheet!”
